Supercritical CO2 Extraction for High Quality CBD Oil

C-150D has dual 150-liter extractors for processing plant matter. The flow rate is 15.7 KG/Min, and it has a hydraulically driven extractor cover, which can easily load and unload the prepared plant material for you. It can process 720-1000 pounds of dry plant material per day. The C-150D supercritical CO2 extraction system is optimized for Cannabis/hemp extraction. If you customize the HUAN BIT supercritical fractionation column, you can use the SFF technology provided by us to separate more wax during the extraction process without too much More post-processing.

It has the characteristics of simple operation process, short extraction time, low extraction temperature, high extraction efficiency, and no solvent residue pollution. At present, this technology is used in many research fields, especially in the extraction of plant essential oils, such as the extraction of agarwood, capsaicin, turmeric, CBD, and other essential oils or pigments, as well as the extraction of many other plant essential oils. Applied to this technology, the above fully demonstrates that SCFE technology has advantages in essential oil extraction.

Pretreatment

Cannabis/hemp flowers and leaves are picked at the mature stage, dried, crushed and sieved.


Extraction method

Drying → crushing → passing through a 30-mesh sieve → entering the extraction kettle → increasing pressure and heating → low pressure separation → Cannabis/hemp essential oil

  • The extraction kettle is filled with crushed Cannabis/hemp material
  • The CO2 high-pressure pump presses the pressurized carbon dioxide gas (SC-CO2) at the optimal temperature into the extraction kettle.
  • Supercritical carbon dioxide interacts with cannabis to dissolve the cannabinoid compounds contained in it.
  • Supercritical CO2 transports hemp oil particles to the separator through a pressure release valve.
  • In the separator, the pressure is lower and the carbon dioxide is separated from the hemp oil.
  • The carbon dioxide rises and is sent back to the carbon dioxide tank for reuse.
  • Cannabis oil, wax and resin fall in the separator and are then captured by the collection container.

Effect of extraction pressure on extraction rate

When the fixed extraction temperature is 50 ℃, the extraction time is 2 h, and the CO2 flow rate is ** ML/L/Min, the effects of extraction pressures of 150, 200, 250, 300, and 350 par on the extraction rate of essential oils are investigated respectively. The process extracts Cannabis/hemp essential oil and calculates the extraction rate.

The extraction pressure changes the density of supercritical CO2, thereby affecting the extraction rate of essential oils. Increasing the extraction pressure will increase the extraction rate of essential oils. When the pressure is 300 par, the extraction rate reaches a maximum of 0.271%, but the pressure continues to rise to At 350 par, the extraction rate drops to 0.261% instead. Therefore, 300 par is the optimal extraction pressure.

Effect of extraction temperature on extraction rate

When the fixed extraction pressure is 250 par, the extraction time is 2 h, and the CO2 flow rate is ** ML/L/Min, investigate the effects of extraction temperatures of 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60 ℃ on the extraction rate of essential oils. The process extracts Cannabis/hemp essential oil and calculates the extraction rate.

Increasing the temperature can accelerate the thermal movement of molecules, which in turn increases the diffusion rate of the solute. With the increase of extraction temperature, the extraction rate of essential oils increases, and the extraction rate is 0.266% at 50 ℃, which reaches the maximum. When the extraction temperature continues to increase, the extraction rate of essential oils decreases. Therefore, 50 ℃ is the optimal extraction temperature.

Effect of extraction time on extraction rate

When the fixed extraction pressure is 250 par, the extraction temperature is 50 ℃, and the CO2 flow rate is ** ML/L/Min, investigate the effect of extraction time on the extraction rate of essential oils at 1, 1.5, 2, 3, and 3.5 h. The process extracts Cannabis/hemp essential oil and calculates the extraction rate.

When the extraction time was 1 to 3.5 h, the extraction rate of Cannabis/hemp leaf essential oil increased with the increase of the extraction time, and the maximum extraction rate was 0.272% at 2 h. When the extraction time continues to become longer, the extraction rate decreases instead. It may be that the long extraction time causes other pigments and components in the system to be extracted. Therefore, the extraction time is preferably 2h.

The influence of CO2 fluid flow rate on extraction rate

When the fixed extraction pressure is 250 par, the extraction temperature is 50 ℃, and the extraction time is 2 h, the CO2 fluid flow rate is **, **, **, **, ** ML/L/Min. Influence, extract Cannabis/hemp essential oil according to the extraction process, and calculate the extraction rate.

With the increase of CO2 fluid flow rate, the extraction rate of Cannabis/hemp leaf essential oil also increases. When the CO2 fluid flow rate is ** ML/L/Min, the extraction rate of essential oil reaches the maximum, which is 0.266%. When it continues to increase, The extraction rate decreased slightly. It is speculated that appropriately increasing the CO2 fluid flow rate is beneficial to the extraction of essential oils, but if the flow rate is too large, the contact time between the CO2 fluid and the hemp leaf powder will be reduced, which is not good for the extraction of essential oils. Therefore, the CO2 flow rate is ** ML/L/Min.

Conclusion

The single factor experiment and response surface method were used to optimize the extraction process of hemp leaf essential oil. The results of variance analysis showed that in terms of factors affecting the extraction rate of Cannabis/hemp leaf essential oil, extraction time>CO2 fluid flow>extraction pressure>extraction temperature.

Combined with the actual operability and convenience of the extraction process, finally the process conditions were changed to extraction pressure 290 par, extraction temperature 49 ℃, extraction time 2h, CO2 flow rate ** ML/L/Min, and the actual extraction rate obtained was 0.283 %, which is close to the theoretical value of 0.281%, and the actual deviation between the predicted value and the true value is −0.71%. The two have a good fit, indicating that the optimized extraction process parameters based on the response surface method are accurate and reliable, and have practical value.
